In the previous session we gathered information on the other people in our group and produced free ads to reflect this information, in this session we critiqued the ads and received feedback on them.

In the initial session the 5 words I wrote down to reflect me as a person were:

-                Confident
-                Determined
-                Friendly
-                Open
-                Interesting

The 5 words I wrote to reflect my design practice were:

-                Functional
-                Professional
-                Structured
-                Simple
-                Crisp

As part of the critique we had to write down 5 words we were trying to reflect in the free ad:

-                Simplicity
-                Friendly
-                Creativity
-                Relaxed

Sam

Putting all of the groups work together for each person, we looked at the similarities and differences between the works.

The similarities and the elements that worked that were found in the work produced for me were:

-                Simplicity
-                Monochrome
-                Structure
-                Combination of curves and straight edges
-                Boldness
-                Confidence

The differences and the elements that did not work that were found in the work produced for me were:

-                Image
-                Layout
-                Font

The ads were then shown to another group and they were told to pick out the commonalities and the differences:

Commonalities:

-                Black and white
-                Use of JL (visual identity)
-                Colour scheme
-                Type as image
-                Sans serif fonts

Differences:

-                Information
-                Style
-                Layout

In the final part of the session we discussed how important it is to have your personality reflected in your practice and practice reflected in personality.

-                In something self-promotional, like and ad, personality is important.
-                It is important to have a balance between personality and professional.

Pros of having personality reflected in your practice:

-                Unique
-                Individual
-                Engage more
-                Broadens influences
-                Recognizable
-                Signature
-                More approachable
-                Confident

Cons of having personality reflected in your practice:

-                Inappropriate
-                Too specific
-                Limits your audience
-                Restricts outcomes
-                Arrogant
